Heartfelt condolences from Chaduchinews for the loss of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were, Kasipul MP.

As a nation, we got treated to shock following sad news of Kasipul MP Ong’ondo’s death through assassin’s gunshots in Nairobi on Wednesday 30, April 2025.

Honourables,

Political beliefs in Kenya are bigger parts of identities. Kenyans’ political views have become more tightly wound into their identities than ever before. Because political affiliation has become part of who Kenyans are, more aspects of Kenyan lives feel politicized.

Being the case, Kenyans generally get passionate about a couple of issues that matter most to them. They are talking about issues that impact their day-to-day lives, a lot of those issues are not super-partisan, they cut across political identities. They are now united than before by the very issues that affect them.

Shockingly Waheshimiwa, they are now united against you. Against what you are doing. Against what you say or decide to do. And they are not only united but also upset with you. A big tide of Kenya’s population seems to be extremely angry with the you.

No matter how cruel Hon. Ong’ondo was as alleged, he didn’t deserve to be killed. He could have faced the hands of the law. But again, those claimed to have suffered under his hands like Doughty Apondi warrant to be served the law for justice. The public sees the later not happening. The people who elected you are resentful while at the same time telling you to mourn your own.

But why this increasing citizenry’s anger? I think it is premised by many things lack of public trust to some of our institutions such as our investigative and law enforcement institutions.

Honourables,

This open public rage against you is not strange. Over the past two years, public anger has been growing.

I think you recall in 2024, where protests by young Kenyans sent shock waves forcing the government to drop proposed taxes and fire several ministers.

The youth movement (GenZ) highlighted the challenges Kenya faces. But until now, you do little to listen to them or address those challenges. Citizens are still grappling with the high cost of living and are angry about corruption and what they see as attempts to stifle dissent.

As the year comes to an end, this government and a large section of Kenyan youth are still at odds over the direction the country is taking.

Today, Kenya’s political scene is a powder keg. The nation is grappling with unrest, distrust, and demands for justice.

The BBC’s Blood Parliament documentary exposed deadly protest crackdowns, but you chose to spark fury and backlash.

The chilling public refusal to aid police in distress highlight a deepening divide. Recently, several leaders including very senior have faced public heckling in different parts of the country. Anti-Ruto slogans are becoming common in university halls, nightclubs and even at social media.

Waheshimiwa,

Kindly take note: regardless of where you are serving, do what is right, and ensure justice, integrity and transparency are the guiding pillars of your leadership action (s).

Because the masses are irked. They have decided not to wait for 2027 ballot to eject you out of office. Some are acting now, and are doing that harshly. Very worrying indeed.

Rest in Peace Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were.
