In this article, the word ‘Nyambo’ will mean Workplace Gossip. which is informal communication about colleagues, can have a negative impact on morale and productivity.
While not always malicious ‘nyambo’ can erode trust, create a negative work environment, and potentially lead to bullying or harassment, or even loss of productive workforce.
Kilifi County Government as a workplace is not immune from Nyambo. Of late, they have proved to be negative conversations about colleagues at the county offices. They have harmed and continue to harm relationships, morale, or/and the overall work environment. These Ntambos have ranged from harmless chatter to harmful.
Chaduchinews can comfortably assert that Kilifi’s Nyambo is affecting service delivery. Spreading false rumors, sharing confidential information without permission, and making negative or disparaging comments about coworkers is becoming counter productive.
Mwaro’s removal from office as the County Secretary by Governor Gideon Mung’aro who had long been viewed as a trusted lieutenant of the governor, came as a surprise to many.
Chaduchinews is now informed that close allies of the governor were in possession of critical details linking Mwaro to the leaking of documents associated with a garbage collection tender.
He was also linked to the release of sensitive information to investigative agencies in relation to tenders under the Health and Public Works departments.
“It all boils down to the tenders and information that has leaked, especially on the controversial Mtwapa case which attracted a lot of attention,” One Senior Official was quoted.
His ouster has not gone down well with residents of Magarini where he was born and raised.
The tension has been compounded by the fact that his replacement is a relative of the governor.
But Mwaro has obtained a court order barring anyone to replace him until the matter is heard and determined.
It’s now clear that improper due process was not done to culminate his removal .
Conclusively, Nyambo was the tool that impacted Mwaro’s ouster. We don’t know who is next.
